Welcome

Workshop of the GPZ-Working Group Plant Biotechnology

Plant biotechnology is an integral part of modern plant breeding. The establishment of genome editing in recent years has led to another quantum leap in the biotechnological possibilities for improving crops and has also increased society's openness towards plant genetic engineering. The aim of this youngest working group of the Plant Breeding Society (Gesellschaft für Pflanzenzüchtung, GPZ) is the exchange of biotechnological expertise across crop species with close cooperation between GPZ members from academic institutions, breeding companies and biotech firms. The working group offers a profile with a broad methodological spectrum - including cell culture-based approaches, haploid technologies, untargeted induced mutagenesis, the use of nucleic acids as agrochemicals as well as transgenesis and genome editing. In view of the highly dynamic and interdisciplinary nature of biotechnologies, we are also open to other breeding-related approaches. In addition, the working group is committed to an unbiased and knowledge-based social and political discourse on plant biotechnology solutions.
